June 2010

Well, I did it again…..I apologize to all of you who are awaiting my next post for a trail ride.  Last week I broke two ribs, and my shoulder.  I have not been able to sleep in a bed as of the time of this writing, so riding is probably out of the question.  I do know we have riders out there this weekend.  Lori in VA.  Kyle in Indiana.  Flo at Barcamp,  Ibo in Delaware, Ohio. as a few have called in…..so do not be invisible let us know what you are up to…..enjoy those Lakotas……I will post a new trail ride as soon as I can…..Be safe…

May 14-16 2010

Wow, we went to East Fork in the South Fork Recreation Park in Tennessee and it was fun.  Congratulation Kip and Deb from Pa for the $50 distance award.  About nine hour drive, but they told me it was worth it.  East Fork has great facilities for horses and great trails for all riders. Put it on your schedule sometime. I was able to log in 13 plus miles by Kip,s GPS and probably a few beyond that on Saturday; as we enjoyed the usual good weather that Lakota of Ohio provides.  Pam keep an eye on Dee …. She is tough, but may need more supervision….Every roundup is forcast to have bad weather, but the Lord always gives us a good dry ride.  Thank you, Father.

If you came, you could have seen the new Big Horn, the Hut, the Charger and of course a Lakota model Lakota.  We only missed having a Grande there.  OK Grande owners get ready for next time.   By the way….where do you want to go next….and when…..????? Let us know, it is your choice.   We are trying for a Wyoming ride very soon too. Maybe we can get Ken McNabb to join us….Let us know what you think of this idea.  (Watch for pictures here)

April we made it to Barkcamp in Eastern Ohio.  Thank you for making my first real ride a pleasure. Congratulation to Mary Lou C. for winning $50 for driving from the Cleveland area. Barkcamp is a very nice trail head with paved parking for the trailers and picket lines for the horses near your camp.  Give it a try.  (Pictures still coming for this ride)

Hey how does June 26 work for you with a possible stay over at Alleluia Ranch?  We need feed back to set up this one.  Alleluia Ranch is the Stites Ranch.  The ride may be a day or two at Deercreek near Mt. Sterling, Ohio and a Ranch ride too.  This is tentative at this time…..

SPRING ROUND UPS

East Fork it is……see Calendar for May Call for reservation and tell them you are a Lakota of Ohio rider.   We will be in the D section.   Some stalls are available plus picket lines also.

2010 is here and we are excited to circle the Lakotas again. Spring Roundups on April 23-25. and May 14-16 at East Fork Stables at South Fork Tennessee.  Check out our Events Calender for more updates.

Thanks for your support and prayers as we had some bumps in the trail this past year in 2009.

And, Sorry about the change in scheduling, but my visit to Cleveland Clinic by helicopter July 4th weekend effected our roundups.  Although I made it to the Quarter Horse Congress everyday, I am still very weak from having my aorta grafted, but I am recovering when 85 percent of folks with the same experience do not.  I am looking forward to Spring when we will start circling the Lakotas again.

As we look back over the 2009 roundups, we have many good memories.

Read through some of the highlights you may have missed…

Cave Run Lake,  Daniel Boone National Forest,  Kentucky…….

Well, if success is having a relaxing time with my wife and daughter, riding my horse, getting to know new friends better and enjoying their company in a very beautiful part of our country; the Spring Roundup 09 was a success for me for sure.  My first impressions were right on those who came and I look forward to introducing them to more of my friends next time.  Many canceled out because of the weather, but the weather did not really turn bad until late Saturday afternoon.  At that time we were wanting to get back to camp.  I also appreciate those who called to inform me they could not make it, but would try next time.

We hope Chris enjoyed her birthday dinner and birthday pie (a cake was not available), but Prime Rib was…..thank you Lakota Trailers.  Chris and her husband Kieth drove all the way from Maryland to join us and Lakota rewarded them with a prime rib dinner. Other gifts were given also with Harold and Anne Prunty each receiving new deluxe harnesses from Lakota of Ohio for arriving first (they came down Thursday).  Cave Run Resort and Stable was a perfect place for our first rally, because it has the stable which we needed because of the storm that passed through.  I also slept better with my horse in a stall.  I pray everyone who did not make it, that was scheduled to come did not have any serious problems.  I know the weather forcast was not incouraging at all.

We are looking ahead to late July in Pa, Wva, or  Virginia, so get in your suggestions soon.

May 15,16,17  2009

www.caverunresortandstables.com Make your reservation by calling Jonas Adams and/ or staff (606-683-3018) and sending him a deposit of one half your rental to hold lots and stalls. Each lot will have electric and water.

Also ….would you please notify Lakota of Ohio and or/Gary if you are coming so we can keep track. Thank you…..As Ken McNabb says….may your trails be blessed….

OK….It is Cave Run Lake in Kentucky for May 15-17.  Check it out at caverunresortandstables.com. Actually the store is not open yet, but there is one near by.  (5 miles by horse or less by vehicle) Wow, I am excited again. Linda and I went there Saturday. It is a new camp stable operation started last year. They have the best access to Daniel Boone National Forest and Cave Run Lake recreation area. We can ride a few miles to a store and restaurant…..that looks down home, and also knows down home cooking with burgers to prime rib and catfish. There are 100 miles plus of trails, with miles of trails on Cave Run Lake for the best scenery from horse back. If you like to fish, the state record Muskie (57 pounds) was caught there in November. I want to see someone bring in a 20 plus pound muskie on a pocket fisherman, that they carry on their horse. We will win “animals believe it or not”. This should be a great weekend. I’ve been bragging about how great my new riding friends are, so now you get to meet each other. Although mostly Lakota owners, we will have a few, Lakota want to be….s. Please make everyone feel welcome…My daughter Leah, home from college, will be joining us….

NOTICE::::: We need a count by Friday to reserve space. Contact me immediately, so I can make sure you have electric. 740 852 7878 or misterrvhq@aol.com

They have 40 plus sites with electric and water, but we need to know soon to reserve a spot for you with electric and water. A lot of open space is available without hookups. Stalls are also available and many people picket. Camping with electric and water is 24 dollars and 12 for a stall (bring your own feed). There is a one mile gravel road (very well kept) to the site, so it is not close to any roads. Hey troop, I am getting excited.

Let us know, if you are planning to join us.

Gary

We look forward to 2010 when the Roundups start again. Email us or give us a call with any new places you would like to have us see over the next year.
